Something Rotten Tour

I just saw the Something Rotten tour Broadway show and it was amazing. If you are in the mood for a great comedy you need to check this show out. I do not want to give away too many spoilers because I want you to see the show and enjoy it yourself.

What is the Something Rotten Tour musical about?

It is a hilarious play about two brothers whose last name is Rotten. They are playwrights in the time of Shakespeare. Shakespeare is well known and has a rock star like persona and following among the other people in the play at that time. The Rotten brothers, Nick and Nigel, are trying to compete against his shows to come up with their hit show so that the newly expectant father Nick Rotten can take care of his wife and child and stop playing Second fiddle to his old classmate Shakespeare.

Why Theatre Lovers will love this show.

I could not believe that I had not heard more about this show before. I wish I has seen it on Broadway and not only on the Something Rotten Tour it is on currently. It is funny for anyone but for people who enjoy the theatre it is even more funny. There are things in it for you to laugh at no matter who you are, a producer, a successful or struggling writer, or a theater junkie who has seen a ton of shows. There are so many Easter eggs of other shows mixed into this in a funny way that I lost count. They bring in such shows as Les Miserables and even Hamilton in funny ways and some are just lighting specific to a play, or the way the chairs are placed and actors seated that recall Jersey Boys without them mentioning anything about it. It is truly fun for someone who enjoys the theatre to laugh along at all their “inside” jokes. Don’t worry though because there are plenty of other jokes the entire time to make sure anyone who comes is going to enjoy themselves.

The writing of the play is top notch. To work in as many puns and jokes as the writers Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell did and to write such a fun engaging story is nothing short of genius. I do not use that term lightly. The Something Rotten tour is such an amazing show that I hope you catch it when it is near you. It is simply put one of the funniest well acted and well written shows I have seen, and I have seen a lot of shows.
